Wild West of Edinburgh

Unsuspecting traveller may be confronted by unexpected sight in one of the backyards of Edinburgh. Entered through the walkway off the Springvalley Gardens in Morninside it serves as series of workshops in a wild west style setting.

The street is a legacy of Michael Faulkner, son of Lord Faulkner – last Prime Minister of Ireland.

Michael was living in North America as a cowboy, fell off his horse and injured his back. Unable to ride he moved to Edinburgh and started a pine furniture business, which became successful and enabled him to take over whole small street.

He hired retired (or by some versions future) Disney engineers to transform the street which became a reminder of Michaels cowboy past, served as a clever advertisement for his business and, after business went bust with Ikea’s appearance in Edinburgh, became an attraction for locals and visitors alike.
